Hamilton Beach 58149 Blender and Chopper Review

Hamilton Beach 58149 review

The Hamilton Beach 58146 Blender and Chopper is a machine that does two jobs: it has a large-capacity blender, and a smaller chopper. The blender makes fine smoothies and milkshakes, while the chopper can make sauces, dressings, and salsa. With five functions, it's a nice appliance for the price.

This is a basic blender and chopper. It's lightweight, but it does the job. The blender is made of glass, while the smaller food processor attachment is plastic. It is graced with powerful blending and chopping blades. The Wave-Action System pulls your mixture continuously into the blades, to blend ingredients smoothly in 60 seconds or less. The chopper is great for nuts, bread crumbs. fruits, and vegetables. This machine will turn garlic into paste, and grind whole cranberries. It has 5 buttons: mix, puree, dice, grind, and pulse. The Hamilton Beach 58146 Blender and Chopper is easy to clean. The bowl of the blender can be put into the top rack of the dishwasher, and the easy-clean feature helps to loosen the little bits of food that get caught in the blades.

The blender on this Hamilton Beach 58146 Blender and Chopper works fine, for the most part. The lid fits tightly, so you can pour something into the unit without taking it off. On the other hand, the lid is so tight that arthritic hands may have trouble removing it. You'll may have to add more liquid than you expect for smoothies: it requires a lot of liquid to make the blade spin properly. The lid has a pouring spout, which is nice, except there's also a hole in the top, so if you put in too much liquid, it shoots out of the hole. Some users may find this model inadequate for smoothies or for serious blending because of the low speed. The chopper is less efficient than the blender. When it chops fruit, you have to open the jar multiple times to move the fruit around so it will become evenly chopped. It takes a lot of patience to continuously open the unit and scrape the sides. It will blend kale, but only if you chop it roughly first; likewise with apples; it will work only if they are chopped by hand first. It won't make decent hummus, because some chick peas come out pureed, and some are halved. The blades are small, so that it won't even chop one whole onion at once. Broccoli takes longer to grind, and it tends to get stuck. And it doesn't work on frozen fruits at all. If you want to check out some other food processors before making your final choice, check out the Cuisinart FP-8SV Elemental 8-Cup Food Processor or even the Cuisinart DFP-14BCN 14-Cup Food Processor.

The Hamilton Beach 58146 Blender is fine for small jobs and occasional use, but you get what you pay for: this isn't a high-end item, so don't expect too much from it. It will do the job if you're looking for an inexpensive way to blend and chop things. Click Here to get the Hamilton Beach 58149 Blender and Chopper
