PROS AND CONS:
The Cuisinart DFP-14BCN is a useful addition to any kitchen. The cook won't have to spend a lot of time chopping, slicing, or shredding This item has five attachments specifically designed to slice, shred, chop, mix, and knead. It shreds cheese, vegetables, and meat; minces parsley and garlic; mixes batters; chops chicken; and even emulsifies mayonnaise. The extra-large feed tube can accommodate a whole potato or apple. The pulse control allows for the desired degree of fineness when chopping and pureeing. This model looks good on the counter top; it's well-made and sturdy. It comes with a compact cover, and a detachable stem for the compact storage of discs. All the work bowls are free of BPA (Bisphenol A). The parts are dishwasher-safe and easy to clean. The down side: The pusher assembly has to stay in place while the food processor is running; it's difficult to remove if a person wants to add more ingredients. Washing the shredder disc after shredding cheese can be aggravating. The warranty doesn't cover the metal chopping blade, so if it cracks, the buyer is out of luck. The safety mechanism stays sealed when it's submerged in dishwater, so if food particles accumulate in it, they must be extracted with a pipe cleaner, which can be tedious. Food particles can also get caught between the blade and the feeder. The plastic parts crack eventually. Another fantastic food processor to consider is the Hamilton Beach 70740 8-Cup Food Processor, even though it is an 8-cup processor, it has some of the best reviews we've seen. The plastic bin on the Cuisinart DFP-14BCN food processor may be a little difficult to attach, because it has to be in exactly the correct spot, which is difficult if it's partially full of food or liquid. Turning the unit on may also be a challenge; the consumer has to snap the bowl into place, then put the blade in, then put the cover on and snap it into place. The feed tube assembly has to be pushed all the way in to allow the food processor to turn on. If the tube is sticking up, it won't work. The feed tube is located on the back of the model, making it difficult to access.
